Thanks for posting that...that's a great idea! My husband and I enjoy picking out a child from the Salvation Army tree in the mall in August each year. They give a list of the child's age and grade and some of the supplies they may need along with clothing sizes. We love outfitting a child for the school year. As my daughter gets older, I know she will enjoy doing this too.

Another cool thing: my best friend donated money to an organization for a child to have school supplies in honor of me for my birthday one year. I loved it especially because I was still teaching at the time.

Such a simple, convenient, and local way to contribute school supplies!

To contribute school supplies to kids who need them in other countries (freeing up family income for other necessities of life), check out MCC's school kit program (http://mcc.org/kits/school/). My kids love putting these together; we have packed school kits in honour of their teachers as a thank-you gift at the end of the year, which the teachers have LOVED.
